AndiScan A2 – new case material – drop test

(17.6.2023) All 2023 production units use a new advanced industrial technology plastic case. Apart of better visual aspects, it is also more mechanically robust. In order to demonstrate that, we performed a simple drop tests on hard floor from 50 cm and static load test with weight cca 8 kg. There was no damage neither on the electronics nor on the case itself.

Back-side drop from 50 cm.

AndiScan A2 – beta-2 phase testing – test #13 – Consistency of measurement precision with 3 units

(19.5.2022) AndiScan A2 is a measurement device. The precision and repeatability of the measurement is critical. This test focussed on verifying measurement precision among several units performing simultaneous measurements. As an additional flavour of this test, we also tested consistency of results of the side-offset compensation and we also used one unit with remote trigger to demonstrate different placing of the device and the function of the remote trigger. All three units measured with a consistent high precision with mutual differences which were typically much smaller then 1 mps.

Measurement setup:

  • units #01 and #02 were mounted on tripod and positioned symmetrically on both sides of the barrel with side offsets A1 and A2 and muzzle-to-device distances D1 and D2. These units were triggered by internal triggers with TrigGain= 9
  • unit #07 was mounted on the mount attached to the rifle scope with side-offset A3 and distance to muzzle D3. It was triggered by external trigger positioned on the barrel at the distance 15cm from the muzzle.
  • Two calibers were tested: 308W (folder/series F000/04, F000/05) and 6.5CM (folder/series F000/08, F000/09).

The short video below shows the series F000/04. You can see the readings of all three devices. The readings are raw uncompensated ones. The results of all measurements are shown in graphs and tables below. Each graph shows a direct raw reading of the units (VR dashed line) and side-offset corrected values (V0 solid line). Short vertical bars on the measurements show the confidence interval (CI). CI describes the expected precision of the measurement depending on signal-to-noise ratio of the received signal.

The performed test showed a very nice coherence of the predicted precision (CI) and the practical measurements. All units should provide measurements with mutual deviations roughly at the level of the expected CI. The units which are in symmetrical position should demonstrate that on both direct raw and side-offset compensated values. The unit which is in different position w.r.t. others could have the raw measurement slightly different but the side-offset corrected one should again be in CI tolerance.

AndiScan A2 – beta-2 phase testing – test #12

(5.5.2022) Test series #12 included a comparison of three AndiScan-A2 units performing measurements simultaneously. We have also used LabRadar for side-by-side comparison. AndiScan units performed direct raw measurements (shown in video and table) and also the measurements (shown in table) with V0/Vx adjustment that are implicated by the geometry of unit position w.r.t. the barrel – the side offset position of the units w.r.t. the barrel (see Chapter 5 of User Manual).

AndiScan A2 – beta-2 phase testing – test #11

(1.5.2022) Updated AndiScan model A2 is now in beta-2 phase testing. Please, notice the consistent results measured by two devices. This demonstrates the precision of the measurement. The left hand side device is equipped with a remote trigger. The right hand side device uses the internal trigger.

AndiScan micro – technical comparison and experimental results (*** coming soon)

AndiScan is a new product on the market of ballistic muzzle velocity measuring devices. This article presents a technical discussion of muzzle velocity measurement principles and shows results of the comparative test against other state-of-the art products available on the market.
